Enjoy the best cup of tea earth has to offer, the star of every Indian tea shop—the kulhad. These Indian clay tea cups, made from terracotta, are made by expert potters keeping their Kumbhar tradition alive.

There is something magical about having your cuppa chai the original way—in a terracotta Kulhad. The earthy flavour that it lends to the tea is distinct and sure to take you down memory lane if you have ever had tea at roadside tea stalls in India. If you haven't, here's your chance to experience the magic of terracotta right in the comfort of your home.

Unlike the disposable clay teacups you may have chucked in a wicker basket at an Indian railway station, these kulhads are made from the finest river bed clays for a close texture and fired at extremely high temperatures for strength and durability. When cared for with love and affection, these terracotta teacups will serve you for a long time, just like they served ancient humans whose terracotta pots we adore in museums.

Approx. capacity: 175ml

Care Instructions
Soak the kulhads in water for 24 hours before first use.
The use of a soft scrub is preferable for its maintenance and care.

Behind the scenes:

Pottery has been one of the oldest professions known to mankind and has been an integral part of the culinary world, especially in India.
Uttam Nagar, a locality in Delhi, India has been home to around 600 potter families that have been practising this artform for many generations.

The advent of new synthetic materials in recent years has led to a decline in business and many of these families are struggling to make ends meet and has led many to abandon this craft.

Project Rivaayat, a student-led initiative is working closely with the potters of Uttam Nagar to revive their livelihood, re-establishing the culture of using earthenware and enabling society to rediscover the magic of this beautiful organic art form.

We at Made with Love in India are proud to partner with Project Rivaayat in bringing this to British homes and in the process do our bit to ensure a fair return for these talented potters and keeping this organic art form alive.
